You were correct: White space does sell.” (Sales Manager) – 3/31/12 (Delaware)
“Your review was very much appreciated, I shared my old resume and your review with my parents and some friends and I did the same with another review. Not only was that a big mistake, when I complained she said I probably should have worked with you in the first place. I decided to call you and you fixed the resume she wrote and I am greatly pleased. “I began this week by sending out my new resume and cover letter. I have to admit I had…trepidation since your resume was [so] completely different than what I had seen in the past and from the one I had been using. However, I was not getting interviews with the old version and I have already had 3 responses one of which has lead to a face to face [meeting]. This has been the fastest I have gotten a response to any previous resume mailing and the first time it lead to an immediate [interview]. So please forgive my skepticism and accept my heartfelt thanks for uplifting my spirits…[Being out of work for] 15 months , it becomes discouraging and difficult even for the most positive of us to keep our faith uplifted without any positive reinforcement. You have…made my week…enjoyable instead of a prelude to another week of no response [and] you have provided the vehicle to keep my spirits up on this journey.” (Operations Manager) – 6/12/09

I presented my (your) resume at my interview today. I was interviewed by a lower level HR rep. It was accepted…[and she said] “Really nice layout!” after reviewing it for 1 to 2 seconds. I feel I interviewed much more successfully this time thanks to you ruffling my feathers. Thank you again! I don’t know “Dr. Jerry” and am not receiving any kind of compensation for referring him–I just liked the resume he prepared for a colleague. Even if you don’t need a resume updated [or written from scratch] but know someone who does; please pass [his name] on to them.” (Registered Representative – Financial Advisor) – 11/4/08

“Dear Dr. Jerry: I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to speak with me on the phone today. You gave me some good advice on interviewing, and your giving me a hard time was appreciated and actually very helpful. As I told you, I am quite stubborn, so I apologize that it took me a while to come to grips with the revised resume. Coming from a family of academia, I tend to sometimes overspeak, overthing (sic) and overanalyze. Perhaps, that got into my way of landing a job after countless interviews? But, I’m working on it, and now that I have given your resume some more thought, I think it can work out as a much better alternative to my old format. So, I look forward to using the new version in my job search. I also think the cover letter is worded really nicely; I’ll be sure to give it some personal touch when I apply to new positions. Thanks again for your work and help. I’ll make sure to refer you to my friends, should they need resume advice. Considering that most of my friends’ resumes look exactly like my old one, it may not be a bad idea. Have a great day.” (Searching for Summer work) – 6/9/08

I also nailed the interview (because of how you told me to work the interviewer) and I got the job. I want to send you a case of your favorite wine.” (Chief Operating Officer) – 6/6/08
“When I graduated from college my father gave me a resume from you. I thought it was a waste of money and I wanted a trip to Europe instead. Thank you and I have thanked my father at least a dozen times.” (Event Planner) – 6/3/08

Both my wife and I have reviewed the draft numerous times looking for anything that was missed or that doesn’t belong but could find nothing. [The resume] is way above my expectations and as far as we are concerned there isn’t anything else to be added for improvement. We both appreciate the assistance, coaching and value the advice you have given.” (Production Planner and Warehouse/Logistics Manager)

Then, when I went to my first two interviews, the people doing the interviews both said they liked my resume because it told them what I could deliver and not what I had been doing. Guess you really do know what you are talking about.” (IT Professional)

“As I contemplated my retirement from 25+ years in law enforcement leadership with the [redacted], I searched the web and found your site. Hiring you to write my new resume turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. You took my 4 pages of ramblings and wrote a 1-page resume with so much clarity that I was both astounded and a bit peeved (for I thought I knew how to write). I sent out only 4 copies and when I got 4 requests for interviews I couldn’t believe it – so I sent out 2 more copies and got 2 more interviews. I had hoped to sit around the house for a few months enjoying my retirement before going back to work and now I start my second career on January 3 – it’s all your fault. Seriously, I couldn’t be more pleased and I will highly recommend your service to all my friends.”
“Dr. Jerry, It is with great pleasure that I send you this email. Although some of my supervisors were not used to this type of resume, it obviously did its job because I am getting promoted on January 13th. I was the one testing for a Senior Officer position at the [redacted] Police Department in [redacted], California. Thanks for the great job you did on the resume and cover letter! I am sure I will contact you in a few years to assist with updating it for my next promotional adventure. Your email and website is something that I enjoy sharing with co-workers, business partners, and anyone else who is in the market for a promotion or new job.”
“Hi Jerry, I just thought that you would like to know… You did my resume back in November [and] …posted it on Monster. I submitted my resume to a few places and received a few calls for interviews but turned them down because the money was not right. However, because my resume was posted on line, an employer saw it on their own and called me, we went back and forth, I interview with several people and received an offer for employment yesterday with what I wanted money wise. I wanted to thank you for my resume that was very well done and it helped me get what I wanted. I will now use this new job offer to leverage my current job to give me what I want and if not then I will start my new position at a different company on January 15th.”
“Dr. Jerry I [have] read the final and everything is perfect.”

“Hi Jerry, Thanks for getting this done for me. It will be posted and used to find jobs tonight! Can I say anything more than “your awesome”?”
Before 2007:
“Jerry, again thank you for your comments and corrections. As I mentioned in our conversation, I was totally impressed with your work. And it was truly a pleasure to talk to you. I feel fortunate to have used your expertise. I know my family and I will benefit from your incredible input and skills. You’re a gentleman. Again thank you. Have a wonderful and joyous holiday season.”
“Jerry: I faxed eight prospective employers with my new resume and [I got] three telephone interviews the same day. You are the man!”
“Dear Jerry, thank you. I must admit your version of my resume truly surprised me. One page and incredibly succinct/to the point. I like it.”
“[Dr.] Jerry: In Cajun country when someone does a good job we throw in something for lanyappe (a little extra) and here is yours. [Note: what followed was a very funny joke that is not shared here]. Thanks for doing what you do.”
“Looks like what the doctor ordered. Clear, concise and professional. Can understand what you achieved here and am sure the potential companies will be calling. Great doing business with you.”
“I was very frightened about sending a stranger my money. But I received a telephone call within 15 minutes after my purchase and you were interviewing me within an hour. Then, to my pleasure and surprise, I received a draft not more than 4 hours after the interview. It was so good that we didn’t need to make any changes except to my telephone number where I had transposed a digit (caught by my wife). Then within less than a hour I had my new cover letter. I started using the documents less than a week ago and I’ve already had 6 calls, 3 interviews, and 1 job offer – you are AWESOME. “
“I am very impressed with your ability to get some much information on one page, and the ability to do so with so few words!”
“I know you said not to expect a 100% favorable response – but I sent out three resumes and now I have three interviews. I guess I am better than I thought I was.”
“I shared my resume with my friends and they all want to have you revise the resumes they have.”
“This new resume just blows me away – my long-suffering wife and I both thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Overall this is great quality and I am really glad I choose to use your service; you will be recommenced to others. Thanks a lot for all your help; this will really boost my confidence.”
“Thank you for all the valuable tips you gave me. The resume is perfect, no changes needed.”
“Thank you very much for your help Dr. Jerry. I am very satisfied with your work.”
“Thank you ‘O Great One.”
“I want to thank you for your efforts on my behalf. The resume looks very good and is a completely different style of writing than what I am used to … it looks great!”
“You recently developed a new resume for my job search. I was beginning to wonder why I was not getting call backs. Then they started coming in. Today I returned a call to a prospective employer and was amazed when she said, ‘Oh yeah I remember your RESUME, it had a different font that all the others, and your name really stood out.’; She was able to quickly locate my resume. When we spoke, you emphasized the details and that is what got the attention of the employer. It is hard to believe that something as simple as a font can be the difference between getting a call back or never hearing from a company again. Thanks.”
“Thank you for your professional council (sic), directness and excellent writing abilities. I wish I [could] talk with you more often, you do happen to have a certain way of getting to the point. Your cover letter is excellent. . . . most marketing pros could not have provided me with a better version. Now, it is up to me to market myself and finally make things happen. Now, that my caregiver days are mostly over, I can fully concentrate on my future. It was a long time coming.”
“Thank you for your quick turnaround time and delivering a more cohesive resume. I like the style of this resume; it is easily read and understood. Very good.”
“Thank you for sending the cover letter to me. I have already bought some 32 lb. ivory watermarked paper, and printed off a copy of my new resume, and must admit it is a 100% improvement on the resume I was using. I am looking forward to putting my new resume into circulation, thanks to your help I am sure I will not have a problem in acquiring a good job.”
“The prices you offer and the service that you present are, in combination, an incredible deal.”
“Some might consider it cheating, but having you revise my resume was the best decision of my life. I immediately started getting interviews – and high quality interviews at that – and I was just offered (and of course, accepted) the job of my dreams.”
“Your work seems excellent. I will study your comments and…accept most of them.”
“Six days I worked on my resume and it still was lousy. In one day I had a new resume and, yes, it was, indeed, a “killer” for everyone that interviewed me said it was the uniqueness of the resume that got their attention. Thanks. PS. I got a better job, too!”
“The real test of a merchant is when something goes wrong – even if it was your own fault. I thought I needed a new resume, ordered one from you that is unbelievably great, and then, the next day, I got an internal promotion and didn’t need the new resume. I called hoping I could get a partial refund and you gave me a full refund immediately and I am very pleased with your honesty. Now I feel obligated to find other customers for you.”
“I now have a competitive edge at very little cost.”
“I want to thank you for all the help that you gave me today with my resume!”
“It looks great. Excellent Job!”
“I can say, without a doubt, that this is one of the best companies I have dealt with in my life in business. You take service to a level that puts other online sites to shame.”
“Please post this message to your ‘testimonials’ page of your web site. I worked for [Fortune 500 Company] and [managed] a 32 person customer service department for years, and I truly value excellent customer service — and YOU provide it.”
“Thanks for getting back to me so quickly — and on a Saturday night!”
“I am very satisfied… I researched a lot of similar companies and I found Dr. Jerry to have the best price… His support is impressive and second to none.”
“Your fees are the best out there and I really did my homework before I purchased. I really did think it was too good to be true. But to your credit, you have stood up outstandingly to my skepticism.”
“Everything is true that is promised on the website.”
“I am so glad that I made the choice to use Dr. Jerry instead of [your competitor]. [You are] arguably the best full service provider without question!”

“Thanks for the prompt service. You are great!”
“That was so easy… and so fast… THIS is why I chose y’all and I’m so glad I didn’t choose that OTHER company!”
“I can’t BELIEVE how fast your service was. I’ve dealt with online companies before, and with most of them you have to follow up multiple times before getting an answer. You made me feel like I was the ONLY customer you have, and you were standing by this morning just WAITING, poised and ready, to assist me! Little ol’ me!”
“Your service is the most responsive and prompt that I have seen.”

“You are awesome, the service received is excellent. I highly recommend you to anybody.”
“I am impressed. Because of your quick-reply you have my recommendation.”
“I found your service to be the best value for my money. I am a stay at home mom of six kids and work part time”
“I am VERY pleased with your service! You are awesome!”
“I love the service.”
“Outstanding turnaround!!!!! Wonderful service!!!!”
“Thank you very much for the great service I received!”
“You made the process very simple and customer friendly. Your prices are also the best that I have found.”
“I just wanted to tell you that your advice about changing the message on my voicemail was great. I had an interview last week with a company I had applied at before and they said they decided to interview me this time because I had gotten rid of ‘that stupid voice mail message from before.’”
“Thank you so much for helping me and I know that this resume is something that will make employers notice me more than that stupid job history report I had. At last I will be considered for employment.”
“Everything looks superb! I am truly satisfied. I reviewed the draft copy of [the] resume several different times trying to find any error that I think would need correction. I am being asinine trying to compete against your authority, here…LOL!”
“Without a doubt I really needed the fussing you did over the telephone. You almost had to cram the new resume down my throat – but, as much as I hate to admit it (crow does NOT taste good), you were right. I now have 5 interviews set up, while in the last 8 months I was only able to get a single interview and that one came because my friend worked at the company that interviewed me.”
“This resume looks great to me!! I would have never been able to do something like that by myself! I reviewed everything, and it looks wonderful! I really like the unique design and format it has, it is very eye catching! So, now that we are both pleased with the resume, is our final step the cover letter?”
Satisfaction guarantee policy:
“I am not easy to please (just ask my former husband) and being an IT professional I thought the new resume I had you write just wasn’t what I wanted and so I wrote my own. Then, after 30 days, I asked for a [rewrite] and you sent it that same day and true to your word there were no questions and no hassles. When I wasn’t getting interviews, I decided to send your resume and my old resume out for the same job opening and when I got an interview, I carefully checked to see which resume they used during the interview – well it was the one you wrote for me and both interviewers made a special point of saying that they decided to interview me based on my “great resume.” I am very sorry I was so stubborn and I hope you will allow me to [apologize] …for[saying] I [didn't like the resume.] Oh, by the way, I got an offer from the company and accepted it. The new job is close to home and my children love me for doing that. Thanks again.”
“I am probably making a mistake but while I loved both the resume and the cover letter – my professor thinks that the resume ‘oversold’ me and suggested that I not use it. Since I graduated near the top of my class with my new MBA, I wanted interviews for more than just entry-level positions, yet my professor (who also writes resumes) thinks that I look too strong on paper with the resume you wrote. It has been more than 30 days and I have never sent out either the resume you wrote or the one the professor wrote for me.” (Note: I revised the resume to ‘undersell’ her without questions or without any hassle – although I was tempted to tell the client that since she “…Graduated near the top of [her] class…” the resume reflected her strengths but her professor just didn’t think she was that good. Wow, with a professor like that who would need an enemy? One wonders if the professor was looking for work?)
Editing & Proofreading: (Web Sites):
“After reviewing it thoroughly, I am happy with it. I was honestly trying hard to find something to add or take [away], but…I think it is great.”
“.. I really like the lay out! I am very pleased. I have had friends and competitors alike sign praises over how well my site looks. Excellent Job!”
“Thank you, Thank you. I am reviewing your work and [I am] very pleased and impressed.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have had a lot of friends and family that I ask to critic my site and all I get is good comments, no suggestions. I can’t tell you how helpful you have been.”
“Thank you so much, [Dr.] Jerry. My wife…is to be complimented, not me. She wrote most of the text. She was very pleased to read your comments. I have started to change some of the points that you mentioned. (http://www.parisPiedaterre.com) Again, thank you very much for being generous with your time.”
“We appreciate your insights and the experience you are willing to share with us. If the favor can ever be returned, you have my email address. It will take us a little time to go through your suggestions and discuss them… Sometimes it’s hard seeing through those damn blinders butt protecting creates. Once again, Thank-you and have a great day.”
“I really want to thank you again. Your suggestions [regarding] my site have led to [a] BIG increase in orders and new customers. Thanks again, you have helped me stay home and be a great mommy to my little ones.”
“You are my knight in shining armor and were I a queen I would dub thee “Sir Edits A Lot”. My sales have nearly doubled since your revisions to my web site.”
“I want to personally thank you for your comments and suggestions. This is the first website I have ever put together and I am the store owner and webmaster, in fact I am everything. Your kindness was greatly appreciated.”
“Thank you for your assessment of our site. I found it extremely helpful and have taken onboard your comments. Having a professional ‘third party’ look at the site and give an honest and constructive opinion has helped us greatly.”
“All I have ever used is your FREE service, but somehow I felt compelled to tell you that I was extremely impressed. I hope to be making lots of money soon for I now know just how much better my site could be if I had professional help.”
Editing & Proofreading: (General):
“Unbelievable! Thank you so much! I have read over that [material] so many times the last few months that I’ve stopped actually seeing it! Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I have just finished implementing most of them.”
“Dr. Bills, Thank you so much for the input on the [material]–we’re constantly trying to improve, and having a fresh eye look at it helps a lot. I really appreciate your generosity!”
Wow, it was fantastic to get such detailed feedback and so quickly, as you know if you keep reading your own work you can miss a lot errors. Thank you for reviewing our [material]. Thanks again.”
“Thank you very much [Dr.] Jerry. Your comments…were particularly useful. I knew something was wrong…, but I’ve looked at it so many times I couldn’t see the forest for the trees.”
“Thank you darling, your work is just divine! You turned my rushed article into a work of art – a writer, home maker, lecturer, slave, co-author of the book Flood Your Body With Oxygen; the one Kevin Trudueau gives a glowing report on. (See – www.oxygenhealth.com) – Commission to edit the article entitled: Someone’s Healthy And It’s Not You!“
“Thank you so much for your help. I will place you into my admin contact list…because we are all definitely not all English majors.”
“What can I say? I’m a knucklehead for not using your service years ago. I felt like a dummy when I got your FREE 30-minute review but I learned a valuable lesson – I know my business better than anyone, but you know words and grammar better than I.”
“Everyone at our Professor’s coffee clutch is talking about your service – you have made a goodly number of Ph.D.s look so much better. Now, if only our students could find you – our lives would be so much better.”
“Your editing service is OUTSTANDING”
“After one day, your edits have paid for itself. Thanks for your help.”
“Thanks, you guys have been great so far. I was a bit leery with all the numerous [editing] places I saw online.”
“I mean it… as long as I have my business, you will be my editor and proofreader!”
“You are good! Before I found you, I had started with another company. I had been waiting 3 weeks for the editing and proofreading and when I called them I discovered they had not even started. I called you and within an hour of signing up I started to get corrected pages. I then went to the other firm’s [website's login page] and canceled. It was very frustrating… they even made me complete a lengthy “cancel service” form, which was hidden in their Terms and Conditions, not on their site, but in an e-mail they had sent earlier.”
“Your support is 2nd to none, especially for an editing company! Everyone else seems to be a hassle to work with!”
Website Services:
“Great Job! And, quick, too. Everything looks great and we’re happy with it. Again, we’re very happy with the way the wording seems to ‘flow,’ which is exactly what we were looking for.”
“You give home-based business owners an edge up”
“We got 15 bids for our new web site and all were in excess of of your charges. Then we found you and we were up and running in 2 days (and making money by day 3). Most importantly, everything works! It was a little scary, however, when it appeared that you knew so much about our industry and our business, but now we understand why we are making so much money.”
“I thought your suggestions (about our web site) were outstanding.”
“I loved how easy it was to understand and implement your suggestions.”
“Our web site now generates more and more business every day! All of our customers love it, we now have more sales and support options… I am one very satisfied customer! Thanks for the great service!”
Speech Writing Services:
“I thought I could write a speech – until I saw what you did with my ideas. My message was so impressive that I got a raise and a BIG salary increase, thanks again.”
“The service was quick, reasonably priced, and VERY effective. Thank You.”
Book Editing Services:
“My book sat on the shelf above my desk for 4 years – then you did your magic and presto, it was sold to a publisher. I can’t thank you enough. I made enough in the first two days to pay for your services.”
Nobody is perfect:
Since nobody is perfect, I thought it wise to include all of the bad testimonials received over the past 25 years or so:
|
“I asked business professionals/executives that I am familiar with to review the resume that you wrote for (Name withheld) this weekend (CFO, COO, General Council, Banking, General Manager, Director, etc). The reaction of all was “Is this a joke or a scam?” My vote is for scam. I’m sure the comments that I received from these high level professionals will not be included in your testimonials…that would be the truth.” (This message came from the girl friend of a client, who, obviously, was not qualified to write a résumé for her friend, otherwise she would have done so instead of fuss about the fact, that for $109, I was not willing to work through her to write my client’s new resume. I did not waste my time asking for names of those who she had review the documents (particularly in one day over a holiday weekend) for I doubt if she could provide such names. In fact, I doubt the veracity of everything she has said. Were I the client, I would search for a new girlfriend – 7/5/2010). |
“I have been out of work for months and I have been posting my resume to job boards every day. I guess your resume just isn’t working the way I though it would. Please rewrite it and send me another copy so that I can continue my posting efforts.” (Of course I rewrote the resume but I also reminded to the client that posting a resume to a job board, while a good idea, was also a bad idea if that was the ONLY way work was sought. Using job boards is the lazy approach to finding work [sort of like hanging a "For Sale" sign in the window of your car and hoping that someone calls]. To rely, exclusively, on the worst of the 5 methods of looking for work is never a good idea. Dr. Jerry – from 1995)
“…your prices are way too low, and I hope you fail in your business.” (Since this came from another resume writer, who sent an e-mail to say that it was impossible to do what I do for the prices I charge, it is likely suspect. Dr. Jerry -from 1999) [Further note from Dr. Jerry: I went back to this person's web site in 2005 and this writer is no longer in business - I wonder why?]
File this one under “Blame the Messenger” [I don't like your review] category: “I don’t care what HR people think about [the style format for dates of employment]. I care about substance and experience. All the resume does is open the door…” [true]. So, my summation is that opinions such as you expressed are like another part of your anatomy.” (Being out of work does make some people very angry and anger is not healthy. Getting through the corporate labyrinth (including those in the honorable profession of HR) IS important, especially if the resume is to get to the desk of the hiring authority. Dr. Jerry – from 2000)
“You told me my resume was probably OK so long as I made a few changes. So I made those changes and I did get interviews – but I did NOT get a job offer. So, you were wrong!” (I’m confused: I told this person how to improve their resume to get more interviews and it worked. Now it is my fault the job offers didn’t happen. Perhaps I should go on the interviews for this person. Dr. Jerry – from 2002)
“I cannot afford $150, let alone $350.” (Makes you wonder who’s website was visited since my website does not have any service priced at either $150 or $350 and never has. Dr. Jerry – from 2002)
“Your prices are WAY TOO HIGH, I have been out of job (sic) for 2 yaers (sic) now and I just can’t efford (sic) a resume.” (Does this make you wonder if his present resume may have some spelling issues? Dr. Jerry – from 2002)
“I was referred to your web site by a worker at the State Unemployment office – do you pay them a kick-back?” (I answered: “No.” Dr. Jerry – from 2002)
“You did a resume for my mother and one for my sister. They both are now working and giving me a hard time because I am not – This is your fault.” (I don’t see the problem here. Dr. Jerry – from 2002)
PLEASE NOTE THAT MOST OF THE 2002 COMPLAINTS WERE VERY EARLY IN THE YEAR AND EMPLOYMENT WAS DIFFICULT BECAUSE OF 9/11/2001.
“I offered to pay you AFTER I got a job but you said that getting a job was my responsibility and that the resume could only get me interviews. So how am I going to get the money to buy the resume if I can’t get a job. Have you ever though about that?” (Yep, I though about it for about 10-seconds and then the mood passed. Dr. Jerry – from 2004)
“Dr. Jerry, You have wasted enough of my time and patience and as far as a creative product, no (sic) flatter yourself. Let’s end this relationship now.” (Again, when someone is out of work for about 4 months, anger is sometimes possible. This person had submitted a resume for review to another website and was told “Your job descriptions are much too BLAND and unexciting as an executive-level candidate. From the way the resume is worded, you seem to be more of a “doer” than an “achiever.” This person did not want to spend the $600 quoted by the other service and, instead placed an order for the “Resume Repair ” service (which, it seems, was all she wanted to pay). Then, unfortunately, after two drafts and no reasonable attempt at providing any feedback except “this version’s worst than the first draft,” the client became impossible to deal with, so I fired her and partially refunded her payment. Over the years you learn that you just don’t need to take abuse from amateurs. Dr. Jerry – from 2006)
